FEAR FACTORY's HERRERA On 'Archetype': We Wanted To Make Our Fans Happy
April 8, 2004FEAR FACTORY drummer Raymond Herrera has explained to the Valley Advocate that reestablishing themselves in the hearts of the group's core audience was firmly on the band members' minds when writing the material for their new CD, "Archetype". "We knew that we wanted to make the record dominantly really heavy and really fast, really catchy, just everything that's kind of made FEAR FACTORY what it is," he said. "So we just kind of took everything that we knew that people loved, and we took into consideration stuff that people didn't like so much. ... The record is really heavy, very aggressive."
Herrera, who is one of the band's principal composers, told the Valley Advocate that the band keep up on the fans' shit-talking, and he admitted that he cares about what the group's fans have to say. "I've noticed that a lot of musicians say things like, 'You know, this is what we want to do and fuck what people think,' and I just think that's stupid," Herrera said. "If you don't want to make your fans happy, then why release records?"
FEAR FACTORY's new album, "Archetype", is scheduled for release on April 20 through Liquid 8 Records (parent company of D3 Entertainment). The follow-up to 2001's critically panned "Digimortal" was recorded at Rumbo Recorders in Los Angeles with engineer Ken Marshall (SKINNY PUPPY) and was mixed in Vancouver with Greg Reely (MACHINE HEAD, STRAPPING YOUNG LAD, DEVILDRIVER).
